RATED STAR... SOTI ''my career won't wake up to tell me it doesn't love me anymore''

Soti
I asked Angela (My manager) ‘’what do you think about Soti?’’ the first word she uttered was ‘’Fresh’’ then she went on to describe how she (Soti) needs to show her fans who she is and bring out her sound more and the Nigerian music scene needing more female acts etc etc.
Well she went on and on about Soti and here I was thinking my manager is in love , LOL! Which would be fucking awesome, because I need her to love someone Hehehehe! (Pray she skips this part).
Soti is a fast rising Nigerian afro-pop act.

She walked into the office with a smile as we exchanged handshakes, wearing a black dress and some nice pair of sneakers, I must say that smile was as genuine as my quest for the reason she ticks.

Signed to Effizzie Records the same Record/management Company that has Yemi Alade as a signed act, she has dished out a couple of songs to mark her emergence into the Nigerian music scene.
I had the opportunity of listening to some of her unreleased works, which I must say from all indications she is discovering her sound and style real fast.

Soti sat down for a chat on our first edition of RATED STAR, here are a few things she revealed to us.

RS; Who is Soti?
Soti; I am a Nigerian Afro pop performing artiste currently signed to Effyzzie Music

RS; The name Soti is that an acronym type or that’s an actual name?
Soti; It's short form for Sotonye. My full name is Sotonye Jane Pepple

RS; Let’s get to know your background to music, how did it start?
Soti; I started out in a church choir at five (5). I didn't know I could sing then, I just loved the idea of sitting in front at church and I was a music lover too. I had my first professional recording at 14 with Tee Y Mix; I continued doing music as a hobby because I was still in school. After my degree program at university, I moved back to Nigeria to pursue it fully as a career.

RS; You’re signed to a label the same as Yemi Alade, how did you get on that platform?

Soti; I met with my Boss Mr Taiye Aliyu and Yemi Alade in Abuja. They sent for me after they had heard some of my songs in Gospel on-the Beatz studio where I used to record when I was in Abuja. I was asked to come down to Lagos and the rest is history really.

RS; You have officially dropped a few singles, what’s your writing and production process like?
Soti; Most times I just let the session flow. I let the producer make the beat and while he's at it we just freestyle melodies and then add lyrics to them. I write songs at home too depending on my mood.

RS; When was the last time you got underneath the bed sheets with someone?
Soti; (laughs) Last night. With my teddy bears, I have three (3) we sleep on the same bed.

RS; What does it for you, give you that inspiration?
Soti; Nature and life experiences

RS; Instagram or Twitter?
Soti; Instagram

RS; Which comes first your boyfriend or your music?
Soti; My music definitely, my career won't wake up to tell me it doesn't love me anymore

RS; Yemi Alade or Tiwa Savage?
Soti; Yemi Alavage (laughs) Got love for both artistes

RS; Have you found your sound, or still experimenting?
Soti; Well, I love to experiment with sounds I don't want to be boxed or be predictable

RS; Have you ever been compared to another recording artist?
Soti; Some people say you sound like Simi sometimes. "A rugged Simi" they say, whatever that means (Laughs)

RS; How long do you intend to take this career path
Soti; For the rest of my life really, until I'm old and grey

RS; You’re a beautiful lady, and I know you would have tons of suitors lurking around, are you currently seeing anyone?
Soti; Not at the moment focused on growing myself for now

RS; Davido or Wizkid?
Soti; Wizido (laughs)

RS; Which is more important to you, Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner
Soti; Lunch

RS; Your favorite dish?
Soti; Pounded yam and Egusi soup

RS; Any plans for the future?
Soti; Yes definitely! Asides being a superstar, selling out venues in Africa and internationally and having my own perfume line, I would also like to have a foundation for disabled kids.

RS; Thanks for your time Soti and being our first RATED STAR
Soti; My pleasure, I had a great time answering all the questions!!
